Turkish

So far we have learnt that for some simple sentences in Turkish you do not distinguish between a and the.  This changes with direct objects of a verb.  For the direct object the Turkish of the is the ending -i, -yi if the noun ends in a vowel.  For a, you use bir or nothing.

Examples

Masadan kitap al            Take a book from the table

Masadan kitapı al           Take the book from the table

Nescafe iç                      Have a Nescafe

Nescafeyi iç                    Drink the Nescafe

Yeşil bluz giy                  Wear a green blouse

Yeşil bluzu giy                Wear the green blouse

(As in English you use the when talking about specific objects it is the same with Turkish).

Can you add endings onto personal pronouns, the answer to this is yes you can ad the endings -i de e and den

If saying kiss me (ben) you  add the ending i onto ben

Öp beni

If you are asking someone, do you have any money on you (sen) you add the ending de (on)

Sende - on you

Another example is from you to me

Here you can add endings to both you (sen) and me (ben)

Senden - from you / Bana - to me

and that takes us nicely to the next lesson, because if you have been studying this section you will have thought I had made a typing mistake with Bana - to me.
